Vinyl Cleaning & Transfer
For all services involving a physical record, the vinyl is professionally cleaned before any recording takes place.
We start with an ultrasonic cleaner, followed by an Okki Nokki to remove excess water and ensure any debris deep within the grooves is properly extracted.
This is an important part of the process. Simply spraying a record with cleaner and wiping it with a microfibre cloth can leave contamination within the groove, while methods such as PVA wood glue, although effective in some situations, can potentially leave residue behind or introduce unwanted artefacts during playback.
The goal is to get the record as clean as possible before it reaches the stylus, giving us the best possible source to work from.
Playback & Recording Chain
Once cleaned, the record is played back using a Technics 1210SL Mk2, fitted with a cork mat to help reduce static and rumble, along with a spindle weight to keep the record perfectly flat during playback.
The turntable feeds directly into a Prism Sound Lyra 2, which features an exceptionally clean and accurate RIAA stage.
This allows us to avoid unnecessary third-party preamps or DJ mixers, which can introduce additional noise or unwanted colouration into the signal path.
For playback, we use a Goldring 1042 stylus, chosen for its precision and significantly reduced inner-groove and side distortion compared with typical home or club DJ setups.
The result is a cleaner, more accurate stereo image and a much higher-quality digital capture of the original record.
Professional Audio Restoration
Where restoration is selected, the transferred audio is carefully inspected and processed using professional restoration tools, including iZotope RX.
Restoration can include the removal or reduction of:
- Pops and clicks
- Surface crackle
- Cue burn and groove noise where possible
- Run-in and run-out noise
- Minor playback artefacts
- Small jumps or imperfections where they can be repaired
Restoration isn’t about simply throwing a de-click or de-noise preset across the recording.
Every record is different, and excessive processing can easily remove transients, high-frequency detail and other characteristics that are actually part of the original recording.
We therefore take a careful, source-dependent approach, removing unwanted artefacts while retaining as much of the original character as possible.
Remastering
If you select one of the remastering options, the restored audio is then taken through the mastering process.
This allows us to address the overall tonal balance, dynamics, level and presentation of the finished recording, producing a polished master while still respecting the character of the original source.
Remastering is carried out after restoration, so we’re working from the cleanest and most accurate version of the recording possible.
Sending Your Vinyl
The Rip Only, Rip & Restore and Rip, Restore & Remaster services require the original physical vinyl to be sent to us.
Once your order has been placed and your booking details have been completed, we’ll provide the information required for sending your records to us.
Your records will be returned once the work has been completed.
Return postage is charged separately, as the cost will depend on the destination and shipping method required.
If you already have digital transfers and only require Restore Only or Restore & Remaster, there is no need to send your physical records.

The objective isn’t to make an old recording sound artificially “clean” — it’s to preserve the recording while carefully removing the unwanted artefacts that have accumulated through the physical format and playback process.
From the initial cleaning and analogue playback through to restoration and final mastering, the entire process is designed to give you the cleanest and most accurate digital version of your recording possible.
